Rio and the Rain Porch

Rio stood on the porch in her yellow boots and let the rain introduce itself. It did not shout. It tapped the railing in a pattern she almost recognized, like someone knocking who already knew her name. The house behind her was a warm square of gold. “I can stay one more minute,” she told the rain, which is a very reasonable bargain. A drop landed on her nose and seemed pleased with the landing.
