Sage and the Quiet Castle

Sage arrived at the castle in sock feet, because the stones liked sock feet better than boots. The front hall was tall enough for weather. A kind steward with a lantern the shape of a pear said, “The queen is not home, but the quiet is.” Sage liked that. They followed the lantern up a stair that curved like a sleeping cat. Each window held a small square of evening.
